Brain Science and Trauma-Informed Approaches
Human services work at all levels can be fulfilling. But it is often complex, emotionally and physically exhausting, and connected to secondary traumatic stress and turnover. Our sector is under resourced and understaffed.
Social Current works to accelerate positive childhood experiences; safe, stable, and nurturing relationships; increased resilience; and healthy development. To improve well-being for individuals served and staff, we partner with organizations to build protective factors, such as healthy relationships, supportive social networks, and social and emotional skills.

Our Focus
Applying an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Lens
To ensure that our workforce is well, we must partner with staff to improve communication, create culture change, and reframe challenges as opportunities. Foundational brain science gives us the tools to mitigate the stress of direct service.
The Intersection of Race Equity and Brain Science
Our brains, which are hardwired to keep us safe, create barriers to connecting with others. But, by understanding the impact of racial trauma, increasing self-awareness, and quieting our lower brains, we can establish deep and productive relationships.
Trauma-Informed Approaches
We can recognize and respond to the signs, symptoms, and risks of trauma and toxic stress by embedding trauma-informed approaches at the personal, organizational, and systems levels.
